Course Description:

In the TMJ Intensive seminar, you will spend two days immersed in the function of the temporomandibular joint. This is a wonderful area of specialization for the manual therapist as so few options are normally available to people with TMJ problems. You will explore deeply the mechanics of the TMJ function and dysfunction. After learning numerous screening techniques, you will learn effective hands-on treatment techniques for TMJ discomfort.

Therapists will learn:

  • In-depth the anatomy and biomechanics of the tempomandibular joint including topics of joint movements, discal issues, occlusion, and potential dysfunctions of the joint.
  • How to assess for dysfunction of the TMJ and be able to identify potentional TMJD symptoms. Assessments will include ROM assessments as well as functional assessments of the TMJ.
  • To treat intraorally the musculature surrounding the TMJ and be able to identify potential pain and dysfunction in the musculature of the jaw.
  • To be able to treat the musculacture accessible externally of the TMJ.
  • To treat the infra and suprahyoid musculature and identify the potential symptoms related to those soft tissues.
  • To identify potential dysfunctions like tongue ties, tongue thrusts, improper tongue rest position and more.

Required Text –   None, but knowledge of musculature surrounding the jaw should be reviewed.

Required List of Supplies - A bottom sheet and face cradle cover. Gloves will be provided, but if you require a specific type of glove, please bring your own supply.
