Course Description:
This three-day class will cover theory and techniques from David’s acclaimed, “The Deep Massage Book: How to Combine Structure and Energy in Bodywork.” You will also receive additional perspectives drawn from the new book, “The Memory Palace of Bones” by David and Dr. Jeff Rockwell.
For past students of David’s this will be a fantastic opportunity to deepen your practice and understanding. For new students this will open up a whole new way of working. The addition of the perspective of the memory palace will add literal depth to your work. Our health depends on much more than just muscles and fascia - also bones, mind, heart, nervous system, etc. Each of these systems coordinate in the amazing living “palace” that is each person.

Deep Massage: The Lauterstein Method is a profound structural and energetic bodywork method. In this workshop you will learn Deep Massage techniques for the heart area, the upper back, neck, shoulders, arms and hands.
This workshop will be particularly relevant to what we’ve all been through the last two plus years. The anxiety, uncertainties, upsets, and illnesses that we have suffered through have resulted in tension and pain at our very core. Deep Massage and some fulcrums drawn from Zero Balancing will help all participants heal from these past two years. And that healing will in turn inform your work with your clients as they re-engage with their own depths and with each other. Bringing peace deeply to the body and mind through the muscles, skeletal and nervous systems has become a world-wide necessity.
- Learn structural and energetic strokes (fulcrums) for:
pectoralis major and minor, anterior deltoid, subscapularis, infraspinatus, supraspinatus, trapezius, sternocleidomastoid, posterior neck, biceps, triceps, the forearm and hand.
- Give yourself great new tools to help remedy clinical issues such as respiratory problems, high blood pressure, thoracic outlet syndrome, tennis and golfer's elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, and hand problems.
- Enrich your own experience of the heart realm and breath.
- Enhance your ability to work with emotional and spiritual issues related to the heart and breath.
- Learn how to apply principles and techniques drawn from Zero Balancing into an integrated approach for this important realm.

If possible, please read at least the first chapter of each book prior to the class.
1. David Lauterstein's 'Deep Massage' book is required course material for all participants. The book is available from the Downeast School or directly through the publisher as paperback or e-book. 2. "The Memory Palace of Bones” subtitled, “Exploring Embodiment through the Skeletal System" is the other required text. David Lauterstein, LMT, ZB faculty, co-founder, Lauterstein-Conway Massage School in Austin, has been in massage and bodywork practice since 1977 and has become one of the most highly respected international educators in the massage therapy realm – inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame, recipient of awards from AMTA and the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education as “Educator of the Year.” David regularly teaches in England, Costa Rica, and throughout the U.S since 1982. He is the author of "Putting the Soul Back in the Body", "The Deep Massage Book", "Life in the Bones: A Biography of Dr. Fritz Smith and Zero Balancing”, and “The Memory Palace of Bones” co-authored with Dr. Jeff Rockwell. His background prior to massage therapy was in philosophy and music composition (BA, U of Illinois, 1972). He is known worldwide as the foremost proponent for combining art and science in dramatically effective bodywork and massage therapy.
